 Knowing What’s Good for You...

The Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Science program at California State University, Northridge combines the application of the physical, biological and social sciences to create an outstanding food and nutrition curriculum. Students may choose to emphasize either of two aspects of the program: Nutrition and Dietetics or Food Science and Administration.

...Makes it Easy to Discover...

The demand for nutrition specialists is increasing dramatically as the role of nutrition in health and longevity becomes more apparent. The Nutrition and Dietetics pattern emphasizes health issues related to food and nutrition. This comprehensive nutritional science program, approved by the American Dietetic Association (ADA), prepares graduates to work as registered dietitians and nutritionists. Careers at the corporate level as well as within smaller businesses, hospitals and nursing homes, pharmaceutical companies, public health agencies, and government agencies are rewarding and challenging.

The Food Science and Administration pattern includes studies in nutrient analysis as well as product development, the production, distribution and marketing of foods, and institutional and retail food management. Professional options for graduates

span the Food Service and Hospitality industries, from employment in government agencies to working in sanitation and quality control, to research and creative development, to sensory evaluation and marketing for food manufacturers, to restaurant and food service management.

 …the Finest Ingredients…

All students in the Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Science program receive guidance from faculty advisors. Courses are chosen to integrate the educational experience into promising career opportunities.

…For the Perfect Recipe…

Opportunities for leadership, internships, networking and potential lifelong professional relationships abound in the program. As part of the program, students fulfill an academic internship, gaining experience in their chosen careers. Internship opportunities arise through membership in the Student Dietetic and Food Science Association (SDFSA). Internships can be obtained through food manufacturers, clinics, hospitals, community nutrition programs, and food analysis laboratories.
