What You Know...

Every organization - government, non-profit, or business - interacts with some type of client/customer. The Consumer Affairs professional monitors these interactions and protects consumers’ rights by ensuring the availability of information, watching trends and keeping lines of communication open.

The Consumer Affairs program at California State University, Northridge provides a comprehensive background in theory and principles from a variety of disciplines so that our graduates are prepared for modern business.

...and What You Learn...

The academic internship plays a valuable role in the Consumer Affairs program by providing professional experience as well as credit toward the degree. Opportunities for networking and potential lifelong professional relationships are available in and around Los Angeles through corporations, small businesses, manufacturers, as well as public relations, market research and advertising firms. Students have also found rewarding internships with non-profit organizations such as the Office of the Attorney General, the Better Business Bureau, and on campus at the Consumer Resource Center which provides consumer information to the university and the local community.

Students of the program are also eligible to join the student and professional chapters of the Society of Consumer Affairs Professionals in Business (SOCAP) where they will find tremendous opportunities for leadership and networking.

...and Where You Learn...

All students in the Consumer Affairs program receive guidance from faculty advisors. Courses are chosen to integrate the educational experience into promising careers.

Beyond the consumer focused curriculum within Family Environmental Sciences, the program includes studies in Management, Business Law, Communications, Marketing, Journalism and Radio/TV/Film. The knowledge of consumer behavior and education, government and public policy and business provide timeless expertise.
