Eight academic departments serve over 4,000 students in the College of Health & Human Development. We offer fully accredited Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree programs. We are active in the community through outreach programs, centers and special faculty projects.
Our new Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is directly addressing the shortage of nurses in California and has already graduated its first cohort of 18 students - all of whom passed the NCLEX (nursing licensing exam) with scores of 100%!
We're helping get physical education programs back into schools to fight childhood obesity through the Kinesiology Department and Family and Consumer Sciences;
We help reduce fall risk among the aging with our "Matter of Balance" program in the department of Physical Therapy';
We provide therapy to bring speech to the aphasiac following injury or stroke in the department of Communication Disorders and Sciences;
Environmental and Occupational Health specialists visit community homes to prevent lead poisoning from lead-based paint and teach low income families how to make sure their homes are safe from toxic hazards;
Family and Consumer Sciences' Nutrition students from the Marilyn Magaram Center visit the Encino Farmers' Market monthly to share delicious sample recipes families can use to make great meals on tight budgets;
Community organizations and corporations benefit from Recreation and Tourism Management's team building programs;
Jumpstart programs in Child and Adolescent Development are helping children at-risk for illiteracy get books and mentorship for learning to read.
