A Message from Dean Sylvia Alva:
The College of Health and Human Development has as its priority to create a rich learning-centered environment where students, faculty, staff, and community partners work collaboratively to expand knowledge and contribute in meaningful ways to the health, safety and well-being of the region and state. With over 4,500 majors, our programs are among the most popular and fastest growing in the university, in large part, because we prepare professionals for careers that are in high demand and recognized for their valuable contributions.
We offer nine undergraduate and eight graduate degree programs in a variety of fields aimed at preparing students for rewarding and dynamic professional careers. Our curriculum is designed to actively engage the ideas and talents of our students both in and out of the classroom, particularly through service-learning, internships, and other field-based experiences. The University is regionally accredited, and the professional programs in our College are regionally and nationally recognized for their academic quality.
We are extremely proud of the dedicated faculty and staff who contribute to the academic mission of the college and success of our students, as well as our community partners and supporters who recognize and generously support what we do. For additional information about the people and programs in the College, I invite you to visit the websites of our eight departments and eight chartered centers.
I look forward to the opportunity to personally greet you and to share more about our goals and accomplishments. I also invite your feedback and suggestions on any aspect of the College, including how we can better support you or to explore together how to create new opportunities for the College.
Thank you,
Sylvia A. Alva, Ph.D.
Dean, College of Health and Human Development
