Sean Flanagan (Kinesiology) 2012-13 CSUN Research Fellow: Nine of these fellowships are awarded to faculty across campus each academic year to support research and academic development. During this fellowship year, Flanagan will dedicate his time to his biomechanics research project, “Multi Joint Synergies” which explores the ways joints work together to perform tasks. “Because of the way joints function as small ‘teams,’ performance may be impeded or an injury can occur even though each joint technically has the capacity to accomplish its task,” Flanagan said. A Career in Recreational Therapy: Gus LaZear has worked in the field of Recreational Therapy for about 15 years and today is Lead Therapeutic Recreational Therapist at St. Joseph’s and Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix Arizona.
Graduating from CSUN in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Recreation and Tourism Management (then Leisure Studies and Recreation) he looks back to his years at CSUN as giving him a strong foundation and direction into the field. LaZear would discover his interest in the field would soon develop into enthusiasm. Read more.
La Ronda Jones, 32, of Reseda, has big dreams. She hopes some day to hold a position where she can help set healthcare policy for the nation. “That’s what I want to do, and with what I have learned here at CSUN it may just be possible,” she said. “CSUN has certainly given me the tools to achieve my dreams.”
Fifteen years ago, Jones was a teenager in South Los Angeles with a newborn son. Determined to succeed, she made arrangements for his care and walked the two miles to her high school to ensure she graduated on time, becoming the first in her family to earn a high school diploma.
